The eye of the tiger – Tigers Den
by Jane Dennis - August 6th, 2009. Filed under: South Island.Tigers Den is a luxury holiday home which overlooks the beautiful Waikawa Bay marina and Queen Charlotte Sound, just two minutes out of Picton in Marlborough. If you are lucky enough to step inside Tigers Den, then you will be as wonderfully surprised as I was to be greeted in the hallway with a pair of tiger’s eyes staring right at you. OK, obviously they’re not real – it’s a picture, done in 3D (with fur in it!). The eyes are piercing and quite daunting at first, yet at the same time ‘eye catching’.
Tigers Den wanted to have some affiliation with its name, so owners Keith and Vanessa Shadbolt and local interior designer Rose Crump came up with the idea of having a tiger picture, which I think works well and is a great topic of conversation over dinner! The furnishings of the house are not over the top; it’s been tastefully decorated with a modern approach that is in keeping with the house (with its amazing kitchen area), highlighting the stone and natural wood inside while not detracting from the million dollar view outside.
Tigers Den is the perfect place for a romantic getaway with your loved one, and is equally good for just hanging out with family or friends. The place is set up well for entertaining, with its large LCD TV and surround sound home theatre at your fingertips.
An outdoor area equipped with barbeque, furniture and spa pool is ideal to capture the vista of boats in the picturesque marina at Waikawa Bay and make the most of those long hot summer days and nights.
The indoor and outdoor flow provides heavenly scenery inside and out, with its spacious living area and covered balcony. I was stunned with what I saw – the view gives new emphasis to the phrase ‘to die for!’
Tigers Den has on hand two three-seater jet skis and two sea kayaks. Plus, by arrangement, you can hire a boat and skipper for the day to explore Marlborough’s stunning coastline and secluded getaways such as Lochmara Bay and Lochmara Lodge, Punga Cove and Furneaux Lodge.
