Free lift passes at Mt Dobson this Saturday

Mt Dobson ski area will be celebrating its 30th birthday in style this weekend, with an early start to the season, all thanks to fantastic snow conditions.

To celebrate opening three weeks ahead of schedule, the family-owned ski area will be giving away free lift passes at the grand opening this Saturday 13 June 2009.

Following this weekend, Mt Dobson, will continue to open every weekend until 4 July 2009, when it will open fully through to October.

Located in the heart of the Mt Cook Mackenzie region, Mt Dobson caters for all levels of skiers and boarders with 400ha of skiable terrain – 25% beginner, 50% intermediate and 25% advanced.  Terrain ranges from the largest learning slope in southern New Zealand through to challenging off-piste powder runs, a powder basin and a natural half pipe for the more advanced.

As a result of recent snow dumps, there is currently a 90cm base, which is greater than usual for this time of year and will allow Mt Dobson to open the entire mountain on the first day.

On-mountain facilities include a full range of rental gear, ski school, a café and plenty of parking. Mt Dobson also offers great views, with the highest base facilities in New Zealand.

Mt Dobson is 184km from Christchurch and just 18km east of Lake Tekapo.
